Finland announced the preliminary roster with 26 players for the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship on Tuesday.

The most experienced player on the team is defenceman Ville Pokka, who is in his third full season in the top Finnish league with Kärpät Oulu and will play his third World Juniors.

Apart from Pokka, also goalkeeper Janne Juvonen, defenceman Juuso Vainio, and forwards Artturi Lehkonen and Teuvo Teräväinen return from last year’s team.

Not listed are eligible NHL players Aleksander Barkov, Olli Määttä and Rasmus Ristolainen, who played key roles on the team in the last few years.

The Finnish U20 national team will practice in Vierumäki and conduct a media day before moving to Sweden on 19th December where it will play exhibition games in Ängelholm against Canada and the United States prior to the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship in Malmö.

Also the Czechs have named 27 players of which 15 perform with Czech clubs. Nine were selected from Canadian teams, two play in Sweden and one in Finland. All eligible players from last year’s team are among the candidates including defencemen Petr Sidlik and Jan Stencel, and forwards Radek Faksa, Vojtech Tomecek and Jakub Vrana.

Norway, which is back at the top level after two years in Division I, invited 26 players to its U20 national team camp. For several players Malmö won’t be an unusual venue since seven players compete in Swedish leagues.
